E-Savvakis

B2B catering e‑commerce platform with advanced search, custom quotes & AI‑driven discovery

E‑Savvakis is a long‑established supplier of refrigeration, air‑conditioning and professional kitchen equipment. Founded in 1993 in Rethymno, the company serves hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues across Greece. By mid‑2024 it became clear that the old static website could no longer support its growth or reflect the breadth of its catalogue. The brief was to build a comprehensive e‑commerce solution that would showcase hundreds of products, attract new B2B customers and streamline operations. The guiding values remained clarity, speed, trust and growth.

The brief

The assignment called for a complete digital transformation built on WordPress and WooCommerce using the WoodMart theme. Key requirements included:

  • Product import & taxonomy: Import around 440 items from three suppliers (71 from Jelepis via XML with post‑import corrections, 186 from North pending XML, 183 manually from Art Steel). Organise products by category (e.g. ovens, grills, refrigeration) and by business type (restaurant, café/bar, butcher shop, supermarket, hotel).
  • Product presentation: High‑quality images, detailed specifications and 360° views or videos for complex equipment. Dynamic search and advanced filters for brand, capacity, dimensions and other attributes. AI‑based recommendations to suggest complementary products.
  • User experience: Responsive design with intuitive navigation, fast load times and a powerful search engine. A catalog structure that mirrors the way chefs and business owners think—by equipment type and by sector.
  • B2B features: Bulk ordering with tiered discounts, ability to request quotations for custom stainless‑steel solutions, service contracts and post‑sale support. A customer portal for order history, repeat purchases and maintenance requests.
  • Service inquiries: A service form that allows prospective clients to describe their needs, upload floorplans and request custom designs. A Calendly integration to book consultations directly.
  • Marketing & SEO: Comprehensive on‑site and local SEO, email marketing strategy, schema markup for rich snippets, internal linking, blog framework for industry guides and case studies.
  • Back‑office: Stock management, order processing, invoicing, shipping integration for large items (cost by arrangement) and small parcels (cost per kilogram with thresholds for free delivery), multiple payment options (bank transfer, card, invoice issuance), reporting and analytics.
  • Phased rollout & training: A roadmap with five phases—product and category setup; concept, design and integration; copywriting, images and SEO; speed optimisation and testing; and staff training on managing content, orders and emails.

The execution

The project began with structured data mapping. Supplier product lists were imported via XML where possible, then cleaned, enriched with images and specifications, and categorised both by equipment type and business use. A powerful search engine with filters for brand, size, power, and price enables professionals to locate equipment quickly.

Product pages were designed for high-value purchases, featuring high-resolution photos, videos, technical specifications, 360° views, and AI-driven “You may also need” suggestions based on browsing behaviour. Bulk ordering supports tiered pricing, while a quote request form captures requirements for custom stainless steel designs, including floorplan uploads. Calendly integration allows users to book consultations directly.

A customer portal provides access to order history, invoices, and maintenance agreements. Payments can be made by bank transfer or card, with shipping logic splitting freight for large items and courier services for small parcels.

Development followed a phased roadmap:

  • Phase 1: categories, imports, filters
  • Phase 2: wireframes, front-end design, back-end integration
  • Phase 3: copywriting, imagery, SEO
  • Phase 4: speed optimisation, testing, bug fixes
  • Phase 5: staff training on content, orders, and email setup

Feedback from industry leaders led to the addition of live chat, spec sheet comparisons, and AI-driven recommendations. Analytics, reporting, and email marketing tools were configured, supported by a blog and “Foodservice Guide” section for future content marketing.

  • Dynamic taxonomy & search: dual classification and advanced filters reduce friction in product discovery
  • High-fidelity product pages: images, videos, 360° views, and specs inspire confidence in big-ticket purchases
  • Bulk & quote workflows: tiered pricing and request forms serve professional buyers and custom projects
  • Service portal & consultations: floorplan uploads and direct bookings convert visits into design engagements
  • AI-driven recommendations & live chat: personalised suggestions and real-time support boost order value
  • Performance & SEO: optimised load times, schema, and metadata increase visibility across categories
  • Integrated back-office: inventory, payments, and shipping streamline daily operations
  • Phased roadmap & training: structured rollout and staff enablement ensure long-term independence
